Originally built in 1887, this charming, Antebellum style home was used as a young women's boarding school.
In 1902, it served for a time as Franklin's public school and in 1915 it was converted into a Hotel. In 1982, The building was added to a much deserved place on The National Register of Historic Places. This grand old Terrace has seen many changes since then as owners have come and gone, yet she has always served the members and the vistors of Franklin well.
Reopening for this first time in almost a decade, The Franklin Terrace invites vistors to once more grace her doors and relax in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina.
Explore the quiet trails of the region or discover one of the many stunning waterfalls that adorn our majestic mountains. Our Downtown District is within easy walking distance and there is a beautiful paved path (The Greenway) that follows the Little Tenessee River for several miles within walking distance as well. From gem mining to museum going to shopping in our downtown district, there are a plethora of options for the saavy traveler to enjoy nearby.
When visiting us at The Franklin Terrace, you can expect to wake up every morning and enjoy our full Country Breakfast.
This stunning repast will include a fine selection of Homemade Breads and Pastries, Fresh Local Fruits, Juices, Eggs, Bacon & Sausage, Jams, Jellies & Preserves, Fresh Coffee and Specialties! Come and Enjoy!

We had a wonderful time. just what we needed. made us feel right at home. We hope we get to return soon! Love.
My stay at Franklin Terrace was lovely.
The house is a beautiful historic building with so much character and a fantastic porch on the front for meeting new friends and enjoying the evening air. Everything was clean and neat. Maureen and everyone working at the B&B were as helpful as can be and were the most accommodating hosts I've encountered. All of that plus a delicious homemade breakfast put this spot in my top airbnb visits to date! Certainly the best part of my visit was meeting Maureen and her family and friends, but the home was excellent too. It's only a couple blocks from shopping, museums, dining, churches, and downtown events. Plus Maureen can lead you to the best gem mining experience in town. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay in Franklin.

From the moment we walked in the door Maureen made us feel right at home. This historic house is full of character and warmth you envision from a small town such as Franklin. From the recommendation for an authentic French bistro attached to a gas station (yes, you read that right!) to the full country breakfast in the sunlit dining room including french toast, a special honey syrup, eggs, fresh fruit, bacon and sausage, we never found ourselves hungry. We met new friends as we sat on the freshly painted second floor balcony enjoying the fresh mountain air and know that they will be a part of our lives from this day forward. As we started the day, Maureen sat down to coffee with us and shared her recommendations for local shopping and events, as well as her wonderful story. Down home, real people, comfortable accommodations that's what you'll find here. We'll be back soon to enjoy more Americana, Thanks Maureen! You're a gem that we are blessed to have had the pleasure to meet." stay longer Michael and Susan.

11/1/16. We are so excited Franklin Terrace has reopened. We had enjoyed staying at the B&B for many years and couldn't wait to see what it would be like under new ownership. We spent several days there in October and were pleasantly surprised. The house still has the same charm, same ambiance, but has been spruced up and is "cheerful and inviting". As a previous customer, you look at the details and can appreciate the challenges the new owners have undertaken to give the property a "face lift" without losing the original character. Ms. Maureen and her staff are very attentive ensuring you are comfortable and enjoying your stay. What can I say about the breakfast? There was quite a spread every morning and it changed a little each day. You would wake wondering what the additional touch would be today. The biggest decision was deciding what to eat first. The previous owners were "a hard act to follow" and the new owners have surpassed our expectations. We cherish our memories, will be repeat customers, and look forward to making new memories! Danny & Faith.
